Dusk After Class

He remembers nothing.

Not who he is. Not why his body is covered in scars. Not even what he is supposed to do next.

All he knows is that he has returned from a battlefield—but how he got there... he tried to recall, but it remained a mystery.

When he returned to the city, the men were gone. No fathers on the streets, no husbands at the doors, no brothers in the courtyards. Even the wounded soldiers limping home from the front lines had vanished. It was as if every male had disappeared from the world, leaving only him.

No one told him why. No one explained why he was the one who survived.

After the hospital patched up his wounds, they sent him to a school. Not as a student, but as a homeroom teacher—and the sole guardian of a group of troubled girls.

The way they looked at him... it was strange. It wasn't gratitude, nor curiosity, but a heavier emotion he couldn't put into words.

It took him a while to understand. They were wounded, too. Some had been abandoned. Some were scarred beyond recognition. Some hadn't truly shown their faces in years. They weren't bad kids. They were just... broken.

He thought his duty was simply to walk with them for a while, to make sure none of them fell behind.

But then he sat down. He listened to their stories. He watched them weep. He sat quietly by their sides. And then, something strange happened.

The girls began to change. Their trembling slowly ceased. The thorns in their eyes faded away. The way they looked at him shifted—from wariness to trust, and then... to something else he couldn't name. He could feel the cracks in their hearts being slowly filled by something.

At the same time... he realized that something was quietly beginning to grow in the barren wasteland of his own heart.

He didn't know it then—but everything he had lost... was being found again, bit by bit, hidden within the eyes of those girls.

This is a story about saving others. And a story about discovering that the one who is saved... is never truly alone.
